Fireplace Transformations

Some clients are happy with how their fireplaces look but situational circumstances sometime require a change. This client had struggled with many issues from the original fireplace including a gas leak. We completely removed the old fireplace, venting and stonework. With a few tweaks to the orginal design with all new cultured stone, elevated hearth and Brownwave stone mantel, this Mendota Full View 34 gas fireplace performs much better than the previous fireplace and the client got her stone fireplace back!

This client wanted to make use of his old drafty fireplace with an efficient Quadrafire Castile pellet stove insert. We gave the face of the fireplace a make over with Stoneyard Boston Blend Mosaic stone veneer and a Magra Hearth Silver Beam Mantel

Sometimes we think outside the box. Sometimes we have to work within the box we are given. This client wanted to upgrade her 1970’s wood burning fireplace but did not want to get into restructuring the whole wall. We installed a Mendota DXV35 gas fireplace and finished it off with tumbled brick veneer, shiplap and an oak mantel.

These clients have a beautiful new home but were left with an unfinished Heat & Glo True gas fireplace from the builder. They had a pretty good idea of what they wanted: Newport Mist Ledgestone stone veneer from Stoneyard, Custom Magra Hearth Beam mantel, Bluestone hearth and the client changed things up by selecting a dark gray paint for the ship lap instead of the usual white!

This is one of the finest homes we ever worked in but the client was having issues with this gas log set. Our goal with this project was to disturb as little finish work here as possible. We removed the original, factory built fireplace and installed a Mendota Full View 46 gas fireplace. A separate contractor was brought in to replace the granite surround but we were able to leave the mantel untouched.

This beach house chimney was plagued with water leaks and draft issues. Once we repaired the exterior chimney and solved the water problems, we transformed this old wood burning fireplace with a Mendota Full View 33I gas fireplace insert. The client picked out some simple finish materials including a solid stone hearth, oak mantel, ship lap details and Honed Latte Ledgestone panels form RealStoneSystems.

The fireplace in this summer home for this client just wasn’t quite his style. He liked the existing mantel, so we changed the fireplace out to a Mendota DXV35 with a Bentley Front and Ledgestone panels from RealStoneSystems

This client moved into a 1970’s condo and did not want to use the old wood burning fireplace. We completely removed the old factory built fireplace and venting. A Mendota full View 34 gas fireplace took its place and the client selected a detailed tile form a local tile shop. The basket weave pattern was a new challenge for us but we think it looks awesome. We think her dog approves!

This client had just bought this home but wanted to make her fireplace “ Modern Rustic”.

A rough sawn beam mantel and wood grain tile compliment the installation of a Heat & Glo Supreme gas fireplace insert.

One of our favorite projects. This masonry heater overwhelmed the living room in this home.  A chimney fire and damage to the flue and heater made it time for a complete overhaul. A change to a Pacific Energy Alderlea T6 wood stove made for a better view of the fire and gave the client an updated hearth area that was more their style.

This client just did not love her fireplace and the fact that it had draft issues did not help. She had a punch list of what she wanted including a stone face and rustic mantel. Most importantly, she wanted an elevated hearth in front of the fireplace. Boston Blend Ledgestone from Stoneyard , rough sawn beam mantel and a rock faced bluestone hearth completed this transformation. A Mendota Full View 44I gas insert changed this drafty fireplace into an efficient room heater with amazing heat output.

When these clients purchased this home, they were excited that it had a gas fireplace. They did not, however, like the mantel or dated marble surround. We installed Berkshire Buff Stone Panels from RealStoneSystems. The client had a live edge, thick pine mantel that he had milled himself and asked us to incorporate it into the project. A slate grey tile for the hearth completed the look.

A tasteful fireplace reface with Latte Honed Ledgestone Panels from RealStoneSystems and a Brownwave hearth was just what this client had in mind. This fireplace is better than ever with a Heat & Glo Supreme gas fireplace insert in New Bronze front and surround.

The old fireplace in this camp had water issues and was falling apart on the outside. The decision was made to completely remove the chimney and frame in a Heat & Glo gas fireplace with Newport Mist Ledgestone from Stoneyard and a rough sawn beam mantel.

The choices are endless when considering refacing a fireplace with tile. This client found a tile she liked at a local tile shop and we paired that with a Hampton Limestone hearth and new details to the painted mantel. A Heat & Glo Supreme gas fireplace insert provides warmth and convenience in her new home.

Beo

These clients were new to this home and she was insistent that they had to have a fireplace. After sharing some photo examples and narrowing down the choices for colors and finishes, we had a design. In about three days, we went from blank wall to a cozy Heat & Glo Slimline 7X gas fireplace.

After 20 years, the salt air at this ocean front home and improper installation from the original builder made it so this fireplace needed to be replaced. The cultured stone was a popular choice at the time but since it all had to come down to get the fireplace out, now was the time for bringing the fireplace up to today’s style. The new Heat & Glo 6KX was a big improvement from the original fireplace. We installed a Steel Gray Granite surround and hearth with ship lap details and a rough sawn beam mantel.

Before

Factory built wood burning fireplaces were a new concept in the 1970’s and many condo developments installed them in their units. Most were installed incorrectly and had many hidden hazards behind the walls. This condo community decided to require all of the units to update their fireplaces or have them removed. This client absolutely loved burning wood in her fireplace and was determined to replace hers. We removed the fireplace and metal chimney and replaced with all new components. Her “Tuscany “ inspired theme allowed us to show her some material choices that fit her wish list including a dark stained, rough sawn beam mantel, bronze tile hearth and stone veneer.

The way this old fireplace was installed was causing a lot of cold air to leak into the home. We removed it and added the proper amount of insulation. The old fireplace was replaced with a Mendota Full View 34 gas fireplace with a custom ledge stone surround and tile hearth, and a new Oak mantel.

This chimney had so many issues that it was not feasible to repair it. The client had wanted to convert their wood burning fireplaces to gas anyway, so we removed the chimney and installed a framed chase to house two gas fireplaces and a Class A chimney for the oil boiler.

These clients were new to this home but could tell right away that it was missing a fireplace! She wanted a simple and rustic brick fireplace. She provided us with some inspirational photos and we installed a Mendota Full View 34 Gas Fireplace with a limestone hearth, brick veneer and Magra Hearth mantel. You simply cannot tell that this fireplace was not original to this old home.

Some projects require a little more effort than others.

This client needed to relocate his wood stove due to it being vented to the same flue as his oil boiler. We replaced his old stove with a Quadrafire Discovery II wood stove and Ember King hearth pad. We vented it with a Ventis Class A chimney. We strive to have our clients have to do as little leg work as possible when a project involves multiple trades. Luckily they had some left over flooring and we were able to make the old hearth area disappear.
